How to Make Vietnamese Spring Rolls? – Authentic Recipe

Tuesday, 10-03 2020

Food is a big part of Vietnamese culture! We obviously couldn’t resit to learn how to make fresh Vietnamese spring rolls! If you are also curious about how to prepare them we had a first-hand source teaching us! During our most recent LivingEnglish Challenge we’ve learned from one of our students how to prepare fresh Vietnamese spring rolls, and we are here to share it with you!

Let’s get to ingredients!

We’ve prepared:

  • Rice paper
  • Carrots
  • Cucumbers
  • Fried tofu
  • Garlic
  • Oyster mushrooms
  • Lettuce
  • Some herbs (like coriander and Thai basil)
  • Rice noodles
  • Bean sprouts
  • Shrimps
  • Fish sauce
  • Chili
  • Soy sauce

At this point you are thinking – okay it’s easy, but what do I do now?

Let’s get to it!

First, prepare all the ingredients. Make sure you wash all the vegetables properly! Shred or chop finely the carrots ad cucumbers. Chop into pieces and fry tofu. Then fry oyster mushrooms with garlic and soy sauce.

Now, you can either wet the rice paper, but then you have to act quick! Or you can leave it dry. We are leaving it up to you! We’ve tried it both ways.

Then, you place heaviest ingredients like for example shrimp or tofu onto the paper. Add whichever other ingredients you’d like. We suggest adding a bit of everything. Wrap your spring roll and voila! It’s all done!

Some of us are vegetarians that’s why we’ve made 2 versions of rolls. It was easily done by only separating shrimps and fish sauce. The rest of the recipe was followed the same way and we all could enjoy yummy homemade fresh spring rolls with a lot of laughs <3

You can also add chili into the fish sauce and/or to the soy sauce and dip your ready fresh rolls into it!

It sounds easy but can get a little complicated in the making. Don’t panic! Practice makes perfect 😉
